Opay Nigeria’s Head of Marketing, Osagie Alonge has announced he is moving on after two years at the fintech.

Breaking the news via a post on medium, Osagie  said it was time he moved on even as his marathon continues. He however has not revealed what his next move will be.

Osagie was formerly with Pulse Nigeria as Editor-in-Chief before moving to Oride and then Opay in 2019. Below is a copy of his post:

About two and a half years ago, Ridwan Olalere called me to come to help build something unique at OPay. He was putting a super team for its ride-hailing vertical and wanted me to help tell its story. I took the offer.

My move from mediatech, where I had worked for about eight years, to financial technology was, at first, quite scary, but my fear quickly turned into a courage-filled passion when I met my ever-inspiring new colleagues.

With OPay refocusing its payment business in early 2020, I had a new task — to lead the marketing efforts at the core vertical. It was quite an experience as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, with the company having to shut down some of its business verticals. We, however, saw it as an opportunity to double down on our growth — which we successfully did and were rewarded.

I thank Ayeni Adekunle, Steve Babaeko, Victor Asemota, Fola Olatunji-David and other friends for their mentorship and kind words over the years.

As I leave OPay, I am happy to see what we have built and glad to know the company, with its recent raise, is now valued as another Unicorn in the African market. I commend the many Nigerians — staff and partners who have put their blood, sweat and tears into actualising this dream.

I continue my journey of providing financial happiness for Africans. My marathon continues…
