Earlier on Sunday, branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities had after accessing the COVID-19 protocols in Universities had concluded that the tertiary learning institutions were not ready for a safe opening as it relates to the present health situation.
In separate interviews with the Punch Newspaper, chapters of the union commented on the directive given by the National Universities Commission that universities could resume on January 18 but they must adhere to COVID-19 protocols in hostels and lecture halls.
In stern reactions however, Nigerians have aired varied opinions on this statement, a cross section of which are reproduced below:
Let ASUU put the measures in place themselves. Government cannot do everything for everyone. I guess face masks, hand washing or sanitizers aren't hard to get. If Universities can produce 'pure water', they can produce the safety items too. Let them champion it

It's very easy for the public to feel that ASUU hasn't done anything. But one thing that is obvious is that some of these ASUU are lecturing in private Varsities as either adjunct or sabbatical staff.
It implies if given enabling environment these guys can return to work.— Jacob Abuchu (@jabuchu_001) January 11, 2021

ASUU is forgetting the fact that we are in Nigeria we people need to improvise and go back to our class rooms we do know how deadly the second wave of this virus is, as such we are going to do anything possible to protect ourselves. Enough damage have been done to the system

What is happening in this country? They education system is just a joke. You get admission for a 4year course and you spend 6years or more before your graduate 🤦🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️

ASUU only fights for their selfish interest not minding if it is to the detriment of the students.
During ASUU numerous meetings with FG, what prevented them from including "Covid19 Safety Measures" as part of the agenda for calling off the strike? 🤔
