10 Things You Should Know About Segun Cole, EkoCab Founder

On Wednesday 10th March, a new ride-hailing platform called EkoCab was launched and presented to the public and without much ado, Lagosians simply felt this was an initiative of the Lagos State government itself, infact the name itself suggested this much.

In an interesting twist however to the narrative and arising from the public outcry and lash out at the Lagos State Government which had had just some few weeks before banned motorcycles and tricycles from plying some major highways regardless of the hardship it would and has since caused commuters, founder of the App, Segun Cole took to social micro-blogging platform, Twitter to clear the air on issues unclear to Lagosians.

Before this, not much was known and is still probably known about the man behind the idea who says the idea has been completely bootstrapped from the ground up without any investor’s money, even the Lagos State government!

We dug deep and here’s what we found about him:

Segun Cole is an Independent Board Member of Cabsmart Nigeria, a position he has held since February this year and is also the founder of EkoCab, the ride-hailing platform presently generating quite a buzz around town giving its perceived ownership by the Lagos State Government, a thought he debunks.

Revealing who is and how he came into the entire policy making and transportation affairs of Lagos State, he said in a tweet thread on Wednesday 11th that he has been a policy consultant on New Mobility to State Governments advising them on how to better Regulate the Industry and proffering solutions.

He continued saying, sometime back 2015, Uber refused to be categorized as a Transport Operator, called themselves a digital App connecting riders and drivers only. They created this messaging Architecture and it was established globally and that was how the whole ride hailing idea came in.
