Reports have it that Whatsapp will stop to function on some specific types of phones beginning from January 1st 2019.
Users of Whatsapp on such phones face the likely ban later in the month when this new rule comes into effect.
The chat application has been warning users with older phones for a little while now that they will need to upgrade their handset to continue using the service.
The deadline for old Windows phone will be followed by ban for iPhones running OS below iOS 7 and Android devices with versions 2.3.7 installed. The iPhone and Android block will come into force from February 1, 2020.
‘Because we no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time,’ the company said in a blog post announcing the cut-off dates.
WhatsApp regularly stops support for older devices, forcing users to keep up to date if they want to continue using the app.
Here are all the dates that WhatsApp stopped working on older phone systems.
June 30, 2017 – Nokia Symbian S60
December 31, 2017 – BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
December 31, 2018 – Nokia S40
December 31, 2019 – Windows Phone OS
February 1, 2020 – iOS 7 and Android 2.3.7
If you love using WhatsApp and have any of the phones mentioned above– or haven’t updated your operating system in a few years, you’ll need to get an upgrade to something a little more recent.
