All You Need To Know About Tunde Hassan-Odukale, First Bank’s Single Largest Shareholder

There has in recent times been a buzz around ownership of controlling shares of Nigeria’s oldest bank, First Bank of Nigeria.

Several reports had earlier reported that billionaire oil magnate and social media centric business-man, Femi Otedola was the bank’s largest shareholder but in an interesting twist to the story, the bank has declared Mr. Hassan-Odukale, the Chairman of Leadway Assurance Limited as its single largest shareholder.

Not so well known around town, Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale is however influential in the banking world as this shows. Here is all you need to know about the mathematician business man:

Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale is a 55-year-old graduate of the University of London and City University, London and he holds a Bachelor Degree in Pure Mathematics. He is also an alumnus of the Lagos, London, Harvard and Stanford Business Schools.

Tunde Hassan-Odukale is the chairman of Leadway Assurance Company Limited. He replaced Mrs. Ibukun Awosika as the Chairman of First Bank after her sack by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Mr. Hassan-Odukale took over as the Chairman of Leadway Assurance following the retirement of his brother, Oye Hassan-Odukale. And they are both sons of the founder of the insurance giant, Sir Olusola Hassan Odukale.

Interestingly, they are both Chairmen of the bank. While Tunde is the chair for FBN, which is the parent company, Oye chairs the bank’s United Kingdom subsidiary.

He has been a key member of the insurance firm’s executive and leadership team since 1999. He has served previously as the company’s Executive Director, Financial Services and Systems. He is a member of the Royal Society of Mathematics, the Institute of Actuaries and the Institute of Directors and loves playing tennis, reading and seeing new places.
