Big Names, Small Performance! Olimpotic Merristamasis, 5 Other High Sounding Budget Appellations By Ben Ayade

Cross River state is one state that has had very intriguing appellation for each year’s budget for the last seven years since Ben Ayade became its governor.

Ayade, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 and re-elected for a second term in 2019 this Thursday, announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He had also been elected as a senator in 2011 for a single term in the red chamber of the National Assembly on the platform of the PDP but it appears this long term relationship with Nigeria’s main opposition party has finally come to an end.

The 53-year-old governor announced his defection to the ruling party while hosting six APC governors along with other top government officials at the Government House in Calabar.

His budget presentations have been known to elicit amusement with their grandiose appellations but despite the high sounding names, reports have it that their performance are far from being phenomenal. According to StatiSence, even though the exact figures are not known, they may well be below 15%!

These appellations/budget names over the years since Ayade resumed office are as follows:

Budget Appellation…Cross river state

2015 – Budget of Transition

2016 – Budget of Deep Vision

2017 – Budget of Infinite Transposition

2018 – Budget of Kinetic Crystallization

2019 – Budget of Qabalistic Densification

2020 – Budget of Olimpotic Merristamasis
